"For me, this is pure and simple, a lullaby, I'm in love this song and if that's blowing my own trumpet then so be it. I will leave the rest of the explanation to Richard and Del..." Marina Florance
“Marina and Del had already set a Christina Rossetti poem to a fabulous tune they had put together, but weren't entirely happy with it (great poem, wrong epoch, almost). So, they asked me if I'd like to have a go at putting some words to it instead. I sat down and thought, at first, that I should make it similar in content and spirit to the Rossetti poem, just with some updated language. At the time, though, I was thinking about my children (mainly about my eldest, my son, who had just come out of an unhappy relationship unhappily), so I ended up writing a parent's poem which was aimed at explaining to them that relationships don't define us, that love is often the most unexpected thing, that we often end up finding love when we're least looking for it, and that looking for love is actually futile, because it will find us when we're ready. And that's what happened to me with these words - I stopped looking for them, and they found me. And Marina and Del did the rest, shaping them to fit the music perfectly, and all the while sticking with Rossetti's original form and rhyming pattern” Richard Pierce
“This is a track that musically I had the idea for some time, it evolved from a 4/4 time signature to 3/4 which completely changed the flavour of the piece. Marina has worked her magic again, and brought a sensitivity with her vocals and Richard Pierce has written some gorgeous lyrics. This is my third time collaborating with Marina, and every time we work together it just gels…” Del Osei-Owusu
lyrics
We all want to be loved
loved forever for all time
but that has changed, here, now
when time and our ways unwind
There’s no looking for love
when it makes us deaf and blind
no easy way to yearn
love not divine or kind
It’s when we least expect
that the rain and sun combine
join in to sudden rainbows
and our broken souls entwine
