About 'Annie C' (long story alert)
When I was in my early teens I had a wonderful aunt who always indulged my music, whether it be us sitting or dancing together playing singles on her radiogram, or listening to my awful early teens singing with my guitar.
My aunt, Lucy, was a cleaner at Kilburn College, one day she came home with a bag full of singles she had salvaged from the bin, the story she told was of a teacher, at the college, who had been so heartbroken, after her love dumped her, she threw all of her 45s (reminders of her lost love) in the bin. My aunt gave them to me that day.
I still have those 45s , truth be told, I never really looked at them before. I've had them over 50 years, only looked recently due to re-organising my studio. Wanting to put stuff in alphabetical order, I found the box of 45s (without covers) in the loft, many of them signed 'Annie' across the label and, the memory cogs started turning...
I didn't recognise the title/singer of one the tracks so I played it on my phone, (Tears by Danny Williams) it's first few bars played and the whole story of the 45s came flooding back.
I've cleaned them up, bought some paper 45 covers, integrated them with my own collection and am finally giving them the love that they, and Annie deserve.
I shared this memory with Lyricist/Author/Poet: Richard Pierce and Annie C became a song of her own.
lyrics
Chorus
Change the world Annie C
It can only get better
Take all the chances you get
Don’t write that letter
The voice of a broken heart
Spoke from forgotten songs
Pulled the records from their sleeve
Threw them away her love lost forever
Chorus
scratched and broken tunes
a plastic bag full of tears
Gave me my voice way back then
cured my fears
Chorus
Forgot about them as I grew
started writing my own
Until the jukebox on my phone
Reminded me of so long ago
Chorus x2
